National University Championships Coming to Sunshine State
2017 National University & National Under 25 Championships headed to University of Florida
USA Weightlifting will take the 2017 National University Championship and National Under 25 Championships to the home of the University of Florida Gators this coming April 6-9, 2017.
The event will be hosted at the Stephen C. O’Connell Arena, on the University of Florida campus in Gainesville, Florida while the competition hotel will be the Holiday Inn University of Florida a short walk away and a continuous shuttle will run to the Arena.
The Arena is usually home to the NCAA D1 University of Florida Gators who play basketball and volleyball at the Arena. The Friday to Sunday event will see around 300 athletes look to be named the Strongest Student in America.
The National University Championships is open to athletes in degree earning programs aged between 18 and 28, whilst the National Under 25 Championships is open to athletes aged 18 to 25. In both championships, foreign nationals studying or residing the US are welcome to participate.
The event will act as the primarily qualification opportunity for the 2017 World University Games in Taipei City, Chinese Taipei. The World University Games is one of the largest multi-sport events in the world. Weightlifting last participated in 2013 at which time three-time Olympian Kendrick Farris lifting for Louisiana State University at Shreveport set an American Record Clean & Jerk on his way to a Silver medal.
