[summary] => The 15th Annual LifeSouth Race Weekend on February 15 & 16, 2020 in scenic Gainesville, Florida!
Half Marathon & Half Marathon Relay
Date: February 16, 2020
Start time: 7:00 a.m.
The half marathon begins in beautiful downtown Gainesville. The route take you down “Bed & Breakfast Row,” featuring classic Victorian architecture. You’ll head south, with views of Depot Park, and up newly-renovated and landscaped South Main Street. A straightaway west on Depot Avenue will culminate in a birds’ eye views of 13th Street, as you cross the helix bridge. Running through the University of Florida campus, you’ll pass the elegant Baughman Center and the wildlife of Lake Alice. Feel the goosebumps as you run through Ben Hill Griffin stadium, home to the 2008 National Champion Florida Gators, and then you’ll head toward the iconic “bacon strip,” or hills of 16th Avenue, where Olympians have trained for decades.
You’ll finish with a jaunt through the tree-lined streets of the Duckpond neighborhood. Once you turn south on 1st Street and see the Hippodrome in view, turn on the afterburners for a fast finish in front of the downtown crowd. After your race, meet up with friends and family in our post-race street fair, featuring refreshments, goodies, pizza, and entertainment. Re-hydrate the beer garden as you wait for the awards on the steps of the Hippodrome.
The LifeSouth Race Weekend is an initiative of the LifeSouth Community Foundation (formerly Five Points of Life), which provides education to K-12 students about the need for blood donation. To meet the needs of patients, it’s imperative that we raise a “Donation Generation” of young people who understand and are committed to giving the gift of life. There’s no substitute for human blood, and donations provide relief and hope for patients with life-threatening diseases and trauma victims. LifeSouth is YOUR community blood center, and we are the only provider of blood and blood products to the major hospitals in the Gainesville area and more than a hundred other hospitals throughout Florida, Georgia, and Alabama.
