Discover A Diverse Gainesville

Mayor Harvey Ward

Welcome to the City of Gainesville

Incorporated in 1869, Gainesville is a diverse, modern city of more than 145,000 neighbors. We are home to the University of Florida and Santa Fe College, along with robust and extensive health care resources including UF Health, HCA North Florida and Veterans Administration facilities. Our city core has a thriving arts and culture scene that leads many to think of us as Florida’s Cultural Capital. We also have an Innovation District that hosts a growing startup and venture capital ecosystem.

I like to say that we’re a city on the move. We’re growing and making progress, and we always aim for excellence. I’m proud that our finest quality is the way we celebrate individuality while building strength as a community. That’s where we find true momentum.

We are a community that tells the truth about who we are and how the world can be. Whether resident or visitor, artist or athlete, player or spectator, we recognize the value of everyone’s unique experience, perspective and identity.

Whether you’re a longtime neighbor, frequent visitor or just passing through—I’m glad you’re a part of Gainesville.

Mayor Harvey L. Ward, Jr.
